และต่อไปนี้ ก็คือ คำศัพท์และสำนวน ในการเขียนจดหมายสมัครงาน ที่ควรหลีกเลี่ยง ซึ่งก็พอรวบรวมมาให้ดู ได้ดังนี้ครับ
ควรหลีกเลี่ยงการเริ่มต้นจดหมาย ในลักษณะนี้ - This is in reply to your advertisement in......................................

จะเห็นว่า สำนวนจากข้อ 1 ถึง 5 นี้ บางข้อก็จำเจ บางข้อก็ฟังดูเป็นการโอ้อวดเกินไป - May I take the liberty of sending you my application?
- I beg to apply for the position of.............................
- I take the liberty of submitting my application.
- I submit my application for your sympathetic consideration.
- I submit my application for the said post.
- I submit my full particulars hereunder.
- I should feel highly obliged if you could kindly select me for the post.

สำนวนจากข้อ 6 ถึง 12 นั้น เป็นภาษาอังกฤษที่เขียนแบบ เป็นทางการแบบเก่า ปัจจุบันไม่นิยมใช้แล้ว ควรหลีกเลี่ยงการใช้เนื้อหาจดหมายในลักษณะนี้ - I am an experienced typist. (ดิฉันเป็นนักพิมพ์ดีดที่มีประสบการณ์)
การใช้คำขยายว่า experienced ดูเป็นการให้ข้อมูลที่กว้างเกินไป ควรจะคำนวณความเร็วของการพิมพ์ (Typing speed) ไปเลยว่านาทีละกี่ค่ำ เช่น My Thai (English) typing speed is ..........................words a munite. - I have had four years experience with a well-known export company. (ผมมีประสบการณ์ 4 ปี กับบริษัทส่งออกที่มีชื่อเสียง)
แทนที่จะใช้คำว่า well-known ก็ให้ระบุชื่อบริษัทไปเลย เพราะนายจ้างจะทราบเองว่า บริษัทที่เราเอ่ยถึงนั้นมีชื่อเสียงมากน้อยเพียงใด เราไม่ควรพูดยกยอเสียเอง - .............the same. (ระบุไปเลยว่าเป็นอะไร)
- Your esteemed company.
- If you will be good enough to offer me a chance.
- I am enclosed herewith a copy of ..................
- .............to your complete/entire satisfaction.
- instant (เดือนนี้) คำนี้ไม่ควรใช้ให้ระบุเดือนลงไปเลย
- ...........at the early date.
- Resume and Degree Certificate are enclosed herewith for your perusal. ตัดคำว่า herewith ออก ส่วนคำว่า perusal ให้ใช้คำว่า consideration แทน
- Attached herewith is my resume.
- Please find enclosed my resume. (สำนวนนี้นิยมใช้ในจดหมายธุรกิจ)
