Bungee jumping has been one of the most popular adventure sports for more than a decade. During that time, thousand of thrill seekers have happily thrown themselves off towering bridges and cranes, attached to a piece of elastic – simply for fun ! The jump probably has given them the adrenalin rush of their lives, but, as with all adventure sports, the risk of injury is always there. The majority of bungee accidents occur because someone has not checked the equipment properly before a jump. To avoid such system failures, bungee firms use more than one connection to hold the person who is jumping. So if one rope or harness breaks, there will be another to take the strain and keep the person from falling.
If you are planning a bungee jump, you should check if the personnel supervising the jump are experienced. The bungee site should be free of any obstacle that may create a problem during the jump. First-aid and rescue equipment should be available. But before you take the big jump, first consult your doctor to see if you physically fit enough. And at the last moment, if you think that you do not have the courage to jump, tell this to the people handling your jump. Don’t go on with the jump and put yourself in even more danger.
