                                  Pessimistic VS Optimistic

In a recent survey, college students were asked what kind of people they preferred to socialize with. The majority preferred to look on the bright side  of life and to steer clear of pessimists. Pessimists were rated as less desirable study partners, campus party companions, or sports teammates.
The survey revealed that young people generally  were optimists and tended to avoid pessimists because they assumed that their negative outlook meant they were generally hopeless, sad, and depressed. They feared that  this negative view could rub off on them.
The consultants who carried out the survey said that few of the students interviewed were prepared to admit to pessimistic tendencies themselves and the majority agreed that, by definition, pessimists assumed that bad things were more likely to happen to them than to others.
Asked whether an optimistic attitude meant better mental health, less stress, and a longer life, while a pessimistic attitude increased the risk of an early death, many students didn’t know, while one girl said,” That’s something you ought to ask my parents.”
The consultants were able to draw the following conclusions : a) optimistic students tended to avoid pessimistic students; b) there existed a fear of the negative vibes transmitted by pessimists; and c) regarding the more long-term effects of being either an optimist or pessimist, it was difficult for the majority to comment with any certainty.
