Should You Lend Money to Friends?

       My parents give me a monthly allowance of $ 200. Some time ago I lent $ 150 to two friends. One paid me back months later after I begged and pleaded for the money back, and the other friend just disappeared. I had to borrow money from my sister to pay for my things I learned only to lend money when I don't need it. Do you think I’m right? John

         A close friend of mine has the habit of asking me to lend her money. Once she still owed me money, but she asked to borrow some more. She promised to pay me back within a week, but she never did. What makes me mad is that she went to Mexico on vacation with my money! I don't want to lose her friendship. What can I do? Sandy

          If you feel that you want to help a friend financially, it is best to give the money as a gift that doesn't need to be repaid. So when your friend spends money on something silly you won't be upset about it. Do you agree? Angela

           I never lend money to friends. I prefer to give money when someone needs it. Maybe I’ll get it back, or maybe I won't just send a guy some money. I didn't tell him. It's a surprise. He's out of work, and this is where the rent for next month is coming from. When he gets a job, he'll probably pay me back. Don't you think I'm right? Smith

VOCABULARY

  - lend (v.): to let someone borrow money from you or use something that you own which they will give back later (ให้ยืม) 
  - borrow (v.): to use something that belongs to someone else and that you must give back to him/her later (ขอยืม)
        
  - allowance (n.): an amount of money that you are given regularly or for a special reason (เงินสำหรับใช้จ่าย)
  - plead ( v.): to ask for something that you want very much, in a sincere and emotional way (วิงวอน, อ้อนวอนขอร้อง)
  - financially ( adv.): connected with money or the management with money (เกี่ยวกับการเงินหรือการจัดการเรื่องเงิน)
