คุณผู้หญิง คนไหน ก็ตามที่ได้ไปเที่ยวจังหวัดน่าน ถ้าไม่ได้ซื้อผ้าทอมือ ที่มีชื่อว่า "ผ้าลายน้ำไหล" มาฝาก
หรือ มาใช้เอง ก็เหมือนไม่ได้ไปจังหวัดน่าน ที่กล่าวเช่นนี้ ก็เพราะว่า "ผ้าลายน้ำไหล" เป็นผ้าทอมือ สินค้าโอท๊อป
ประจำจังหวัดน่าน มีชื่อเสียงมาตั้งแต่อดีตแล้ว ปัจจุบันยังมีชาวบ้าน ที่ยังคงเอกลักษณ์ ผ้าทอมือลายน้ำไหลนี้ อยู่
หลายๆ อำเภอในจังหวัดน่าน แต่ที่จะมีชื่อเสียงที่สุด ก็จะเป็น ผ้าทอลายน้ำไหล อ.ท่าวังผา อ.เวียงสา เป็นต้นฯ

Its name means “flowing water” as its pattern resembles waves or stairs.
Its design reflects local artistic and creative skills.
The process of weaving has been taught to the female members of the household
by their grandmother or mother.

So the same craft was carried on from generation to generation as a cultural heritage.
In the past, almost every house in rural villages owned a loom
by which the villagers wove fabric for their household use and also for sale.
When the farming was done, the women would spend time weaving fabric
or other household items.

Nowadays, farmer housewives gather in community production centers to weave lai nam lai cloths.
