CNN: Our iPhone app is "not a hobby"

CNN chatted with our good friends at DLS about the news network's iPhone app (scheduled to hit an App Store near you very soon), and it actually sounds pretty premium: in-app video, breaking news live video streaming, a Coverflow-style way to browse news information, the ability to store news to read later, and social sharing through Facebook, Twitter, and the usual suspects. CNN even says they want to add more to the app in the future, including some iReport-style news delivery functions, so people with iPhones out in the world can send news in as quickly as possible.

        A hobby is a form of pastime which keeps us occupied during out leisure. It is an integral part of life. All of us have some leisure. If we remain idle, we shall naturally think of mischief and entertain evil thoughts. It has truly been said that an idle man’s brain is a devil’s workshop. Hobbies enable us to spend our spare time delight­fully and profitably. They have a healthy influence on our mind.

       งานอดิเรกคือการใช้เวลาว่างให้เป็นประโยชน์  มันเป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่สำคัญยิ่งสำหรับการใช้ชีวิต พวกเราทุกคนมีงานอดิเรกบางอย่าง ถ้าเราไม่ทำอะไรเลย ตามธรรมชาติมนุษย์แล้ว เรามักจะคิดถึงสิ่งที่ไม่ดี มีคำกล่าวว่า สมองของคนเกียจคร้านคืองานของปีศาจ งานอดิเรกทำให้เราได้ใช้เวลาว่างอย่างเพลิดเพลินและได้ประโยชน์ มัยมีอิทธิพลในทางที่ดีต่อความคิดของเรา

Hobbies poems

I love them.

First it was blogging, 

then sewing 

and now I have gone onto

scrapbooking

(DH spoiled me with a cricut for my bday)

 and I cannot tell you how great of a 

stress outlet it is. 

(personally, I'm not counting reading because 

I always read...make sense?)

Whenever I'm irritated or stressed I go upstairs,

shut the door to my "idea" room and

swarm myself with sewing ideas,

crafting ideas or blog thoughts.

In the end, 

I forget I'm stressed out.

I'm not a pro at any of them, 

but at the same time...

you don't have to.

As long as you love doing

these hobbies...

that's all that really matters.

Expressing likes and dislikes

To talk about your likes and dislikes, you can use these expressions.

Expressing likes:

• I like…
• I love...
• I adore…
• I ‘m crazy about…
• I’m mad about…
• I enjoy…
• I’m keen on…

Expressing dislikes:

• I don’t like…
• I dislike...
• I hate…
• I abhor…
• I can’t bear...
• I can’t stand…
• I detest...
• I loathe...

 Examples of likes and dislikes :

I'm mad about basketball, but I can’t bear ice hockey.
I adore reading poetry, but I loathe doing the housework.

Things to remember about likes and dislikes

1. When these expressions are followed by a verb, the latter is put in the -ing form.
     Examples:

      "I like listening to music."
      "I hate wearing sunglasses."

2. Note that" very much" & " a lot" always come after the things you like.
     Examples:

          "I like basketball very much/a lot. NOT" I like very much/a lot basketball."

3.  Be careful when you use "I don't mind..."
     Examples:

 "Do you mind playing football?"
"No, I don't mind."(Although it's in a negative form, it means that it's ok for me. I neither love it nor hate it.)
