Paralympians strive for equal treatment with non-disabled Olympic athletes, but there is a large funding gap between Olympic and Paralympic athletes. There are also sports, such as track and field athletics, that are resistant to Paralympians who wish to compete equally with non-disabled athletes, though there have been Paralympians who have participated in the Olympic Games. The Summer Games of 1988 held in Seoul was the first time the term "Paralympic" came into official use. Given the wide variety of disabilities that paralympic athletes have, there are several categories in which the athletes compete. Vocabulary : athlete (n) a person who is very good at sports or physical exercise, especially one who competes in organized events disability (n) an illness, injury or condition that makes it difficult for someone to do the things that other people do compete (v) to take part in a race or competition strive (v) to try very hard to do something or to make something happen, especially for a long time or against difficulties funding (n) money given by a government or organization for an event or activity track (n) a sport in which people compete with each other by running a race on a specially prepared circular path
