Tom and Nick want to go camping in Wales during the holidays. They need to buy a tent and some pieces of equipment before they go. They also have to pay their train fare to Wales.
Nick : The cheapest tent we’ve seen costs £55.
We haven’t got much money so we both need to
start saving our pocket money.
Tom : You’re right. I get £5 every fortnight and I usually
buy a few magazines. I should be able to save
about £4 of it.
Nick : That’s great. I get a little more than you because
I do a lot of extra jobs for my Mum and Dad.
I should be able to save as much as £7 a fortnight.
Tom : I wonder if I could get more pocket money if I did
a few more things at home.
Nick : There’s a little hope of that, Tom ! You don’t like
working. How much do we need altogether ?
Tom : Well, the tent is £55, the train fare is £10 each
and we need a little spending money as well as a
few things to cook with. We need to save about
£50 each.
Nick : It will be quite hard but I think we’ll manage it.
How many weeks are there before the school
holidays ?
Tom : Nine, I think. That gives us quite a lot of time,
doesn’t it ?
Nick : Yes, it does, and if you do a few jobs at home,
we’ll save a lot of money !
